Rayatecha Raja, Janata Raja, Shakakarta, Chhatrapati, one king with many designations. A self-made man born in the hill-fort of Shivaneri, went on to form the genesis of the Maratha Empire.
Combat with Afzal Khan at the foot hills of pratapgarh fort, Conflict with the Mughals, the treaty of Purandar, reconquest of the south, expansion of the Maratha empire and many more historical events took place during his rule. The Guerilla tactics, the hill-forts, the Navy played a prominent role in his strategy.
No place safer than his kingdom, a guardian for the women and children. Equality before the law was the prime objective. An army of commanders from different religions united behind one leader with one purpose (Hindavi Swarajya).
Crowned as the king of Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati (paramount sovereign) was the title bestowed on him by the people during the coronation (Rajyabhishek) on 6 June 1674.
